Blood Banks/ Blood Centres Accreditation Programme

The Blood Bank Accreditation Programme is intended for blood banks and transfusion centres that want to ensure the safety, quality, and efficiency of their operations. It mandates adherence to scientifically validated procedures across donor screening, blood collection, component preparation, testing, storage, and distribution. The programme also emphasises traceability and regulatory compliance, reducing the risk of transfusion-related complications. Accreditation enhances the institution’s reputation among clinicians, hospitals, and regulators, supporting both clinical outcomes and operational transparency.

  • Safety and Scientific Rigor:
This programme mandates evidence-based practices for the collection, testing, storage, and distribution of blood and components, significantly improving transfusion safety.
  • Clinical Reliability:
It ensures that every step in the blood banking process—right from donor screening to issue and traceability—follows a defined protocol, thereby reducing risks of error and infection.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Oversight:
Accredited blood banks are aligned with national regulations, licensing norms, and traceability protocols, making them audit-ready and legally compliant.
  • Trust Among Hospitals and Clinicians:
By building a reputation for safety and quality, accredited blood banks become preferred partners for hospitals and treating physicians who rely on timely and dependable blood supply.
  • Performance Monitoring:
Structured internal audits, quality checks, and outcome tracking encourage continuous improvement and accountability across all functional areas.
  • External Recognition and Expansion:
Accreditation enhances the credibility of a blood bank, facilitating institutional partnerships, empanelment, and access to wider healthcare networks.
