Strengthening Empanelment for Quality Healthcare under CGHS

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is a government-run healthcare facility scheme offering comprehensive medical services to central government employees and pensioners across India. Under an MoU with MoHFW, NABH-QCI is responsible for assessing hospitals based on defined quality criteria for CGHS empanelment. The assessments are based on the application format specified by CGHS, and NABH-QCI submits its recommendations to CGHS and publishes the status on the NABH website.

This collaboration helps ensure that hospitals empanelled under CGHS meet standardised benchmarks for service quality and patient safety. By involving NABH, CGHS builds greater credibility and consistency in the quality of care available to its beneficiaries, especially retired and serving central government personnel.

To conduct quality assessments of hospitals applying for CGHS empanelment based on the CGHS application format, and provide recommendations to CGHS for inclusion on the empanelled list.

• Brings greater credibility and transparency to the CGHS empanelment process through independent assessments.
• Ensures quality assurance in hospitals serving CGHS beneficiaries, reinforcing trust in public healthcare.
• Encourages adoption of evidence-based clinical practices and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Supports standardisation across empanelled hospitals, ensuring consistent patient experience.
• Improves accessibility to safe, reliable, and accountable healthcare services for central government employees and pensioners.
